Budget Update On Monday evening, the Board of Directors adopted the 2019-2020 budget. Since the Public Hearing on April 22, there is a need for an additional Kindergarten teacher at MIW due to increased enrollment. With this addition, the budget increased slightly to 2.84%, but remains a 0% increase on taxes.  The next step in the budget process is the District budget meeting which will take place on Thursday, May 23 at 7pm  (registration starts at 6:30pm) at the Greely Center for the Arts. New Campus Street Signs When you came into campus this week, you may have noticed new maroon and white directional street signs. This is part of the updates recommended by the district's safety committee. For 9-1-1 purposes, there were limited options available for naming campus streets. Pre-K Information We had a lot of interest from parents who would like their child to participate in our initial Pre-K Program for 2019-2020.  We are working with Child Development Services to screen all students interested in the program and identify those who will be participating in three major areas:  special education, free/reduced meals, and regular education through a lottery.  The lottery will be held in June after screenings are completed to develop a complete roster of students and ensure balanced classrooms. Greely Boy Hockey Team - State Champions On Saturday, March 9, the Greely Boys Hockey Team took home the win for the Class B State Championship over the defending State Campions, Old Town. Greely came up strong and finished the game with an 8-0 victory! Congratulations to our State Champions, Greely Boys Hockey! Go Rangers! Youth Art Month Due to our Board Meeting being canceled on March 4th, I stopped by Mrs. Driscoll's class and Mrs. Botto's class to present certificates to Skylar Haugen (3rd grade) and Mia Rico (12th grade). These two students have a piece of their artwork being shown in the Portland Museum of Art for the Month of March for Youth Art Month. Naturalization Ceremony On February 27th, several hundred students at GHS were able to witness 54 candidates from 26 countries become US Citizens. The Naturalization ceremony was held at the Greely Center for the Arts. Congrats to those who were Naturalized and special thanks to Julie Doughty for organizing this event, Jordan Bryant for reciting a beautiful poem and our keynote speaker, GHS Senior, Ibrahim Saleh! Bytes and Bites GMS 4-8 Technology Teams hosted "Bytes and Bites Family Dinner" on Tuesday evening. There was good food, good company, and good conversation! Greely Center for the Arts Grand Opening THANK YOU! On Monday, January 28th, we held  the  Grand Opening of the Greely Center for the Arts with a ribbon - cutting and stellar performances by our  K-12  students.  From the Grade 3 chorus  singing  for the first time ,  to the polished Madrigal singers performing in the lobby ,  to the mini art gallery in the lobby  displaying  K-12 student art, there was a little something for everyone to see and hear throughout the evening.  After the ribbon cutting ceremony, the amazing GHS theater students were  present  at every turn to help assist our guests as they navigated through out this   beautiful  new facility. For a complete detailed schedule, visit our website . 6th Graders Celebrate Half-Way Mark Last week, GMS 6th graders celebrated their "half way" mark: exactly half way through their K-12 education. They did this in creative ways, from painting half their faces to changing classes halfway through their class blocks, all in good fun. Just 6.5 years until graduation! Students Raise Money for Guatemala 6th Graders in Mrs. Adams class held a "Pie Your Teachers" fundraiser to raise money for a village in Guatemala. Welcome to 2019! Greely Center for the Arts Update Last weekend, we moved the GHS chorus and band classrooms into their new space in the GCA. While there are still a few minor items left on the punch list, the majority of the space has been completed and ready to be occupied. Greely High School will be hosting their "Poetry Out Loud" in the GCA in a couple of weeks and the Grand Opening will be held on Monday, January 28 from 6-9PM - more details to come in the district's weekly newsletter. Japanese Visitors Welcome to our visitors from Japan! Greely Middle School hosted 10 students and 4 staff from Namioka Junior High School, Namioka Town, Amori Prefecture, JAPAN. The mission of the exchange with our friends from Japan is to promote mutual understanding, friendship, and goodwill through educational and cultural exchange.
