Update: January 7, 2019
Welcome to 2019!
Greely Center for the Arts Update
Last weekend, we moved the GHS chorus and band classrooms into their new space in the GCA. While there are still a few minor items left on the punch list, the majority of the space has been completed and ready to be occupied. Greely High School will be hosting their "Poetry Out Loud" in the GCA in a couple of weeks and the Grand Opening will be held on Monday, January 28 from 6-9PM - more details to come in the district's weekly newsletter.
Japanese Visitors
Welcome to our visitors from Japan! Greely Middle School hosted 10 students and 4 staff from Namioka Junior High School, Namioka Town, Amori Prefecture, JAPAN. The mission of the exchange with our friends from Japan is to promote mutual understanding, friendship, and goodwill through educational and cultural exchange. The ultimate goal is to contribute toward the peace and prosperity of our communities, our countries, and the world.
Message from Overseas
Before the holidays, students from our schools sent holiday greetings to members of the armed forces stationed in Qatar. This is message back from MSargent Shawn Dunton, USAF 379th Expeditionary Logistics Readiness Squad, Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar:"At chow hall I noticed messages & saw that they were from Greely. Thank you for your kinds words, it was appreciated especially since it was from Maine. Happy Holidays from Qatar!"
Budget Primer
The District is committed to helping our students, parents, community members and staff better understand our budget. Over the course of the next few weeks, I will be sharing a series of short videos that I call "Budget Primers". These will hopefully better explain some of the details of our budget. This first primer better explains what an SAD is....

Safety Committee News
The MSAD #51 Safety Committee met before the holiday break with Bill DeLong, Maine's state rep. for Homeland Security, to discuss the process of conducting a district-wide threat and vulnerability assessment, or safety audit, of our facilities and practices. The committee will be working with Bill to conduct this audit over the next few months, and this is provided free of charge from the US Dept. of Homeland Security as part of their support for school district safety initiatives.
