Naturalization Ceremony

On February 27th, several hundred students at GHS were able to witness 54 candidates from 26 countries become US Citizens. The Naturalization ceremony was held at the Greely Center for the Arts. Congrats to those who were Naturalized and special thanks to Julie Doughty for organizing this event, Jordan Bryant for reciting a beautiful poem and our keynote speaker, GHS Senior, Ibrahim Saleh!


Bytes and Bites

GMS 4-8 Technology Teams hosted "Bytes and Bites Family Dinner" on Tuesday evening. There was good food, good company, and good conversation! Over 100 people in attendance - amazing! A big THANK YOU to our GMS 4-8 Tech Teams, Greely PTO and MSAD #51 Technology Department for all the time and effort put into the successful event!  Thank you to the many volunteers who pitched in to make it happen including GHS swim team athletes who came to help with dinner.


State Champions - Boys & Girls Basketball


On Friday evening at the Augusta Civic Center, both the girls and boys basketball teams took to the court to defend their State titles from 2018. Girls faced Hampden Academy - Greely edging out Hampden Academy 54 - 42. Boys faced off against Lawrence - winning that game 62-45.

First time in the history of Maine High School hoops, BOTH boys and girls back to back CHAMPIONS!



Greely Trivia Team



Congratulations to the Greely Trivia Team for beating Bangor in the first round of the High School Quiz Show. Next up, the winner of Marshwood and South Portland. Tune in April 25th at 8pm to see them in action! To see the full bracket with all teams and when they will play, click here.


5th Grade Civil Rights Team


Horns were honking, church bells were ringing, and spectators decided to participate by making their own signs....10 members of the 5th grade Civil Rights team marched up to Prince Memorial Library to deliver handmade bookmarks to celebrate Black History Month.



Carbon Footprint Reduction

I am happy to report that our energy projects over the last 4 years have produced real savings in our carbon footprint.  The Cumberland Climate Action Team did an analysis of our energy usage and found that the district's carbon footprint has dropped by 45% in this time.

Budget Primer #4 of 7

The District is committed to helping our students, parents, community members and staff better understand our budget. Over the course of the next few weeks, I will be sharing a series of short videos that I call "Budget Primers". These will hopefully better explain some of the details of our budget. Congratulations Go To...

  • Congrats GHS seniors Luke Marsanskis and Edmund Paquin, who were recently named finalists with the National Merit Scholarship Corporation
  • Congratulations to seventh grader Lucie Noonan who won a Maine Municipal Association essay contest for her essay entitled "If I Led My Community." For her essay, she will receive a Visa gift card and have her essay published in the MMA bulletin as well as on their website. She will be presented with her award at the Cumberland Town Council meeting on March 11th. Congratulations Lucie!
  • Congratulations to Justin Hobart (for January) and Isabella Chandler (for February) for being awarded Lions Service Students of the Month. Both students have been actively giving back to our community and were honored at the most recent Lions Monthly Meeting.
  • Anna DeWolfe, Andrew Storey and Zach Brown all semi-finalists for Maine’s Mr. and Miss Basketball honors.
  • Congrats Lizzy Hanson 5th in Giant Slalom/8th in Slalom Class A states; Alex Richard 5th in Giant Slalom/7th in Slalom; Brooke Asherman 13th in Giant Slalom. Lizzy Hanson named to State HS Alpine Team for 7th overall @ EHSC Alpine Shootouts, off to Alpine Champs at Attitash Mountain.
  • Congratulations to the Greely Boys' JV Hockey team, who won the Casco Bay Arena 2018-19 JV League Championship Friday night, February 22, with an exciting 5-3 win in the finals over Gorham JV.
  • Greely Nordic ski team will represent Maine in the upcoming High School New England Nordic Ski Champs. Alex Collins will race for U16 & Eastern High School Team. Nate Colavolpe will race with Eastern High School team. Leif Harvey will race on U16 team, #2 overall U16 performer.
