MSAD #51's budget passed by 73% (1534 YES - 582 NO). Thank you to those residents who took time to exercise their right to vote. 


Project-based Learning at Abbott Farm


Once a week for the past 2 months, Isaac & William have been working on their math skills through a partnership with Abbott Farm. They are building a farm stand for the owners to sell their products. This project-based, hands-on learning project has been a great experience for everyone. Thank you to Mr. Wood and Mr. Westhoven for organizing this wonderful learning opportunity!





Functional Life Skills Students Visit Gray Wildlife Park


Over the course of the last month, students in the GMS 4-8 life skills program have been researching Maine and the animals that live here. The completed their unit by visiting the Gray Animal Park where they held a visual scavenger hunt and were finally able to see the animals they had been studying!




Scatter-Good Farm Volunteer Trip

Thirty-four GMS 6-8 students from Outing Club, Civil Rights Team, Student Council & the Green Team volunteered at Scatter Good Farm on June 3rd in Brunswick. Scatter Good is a volunteer-based farm that grows organic fruits & vegetables, & donates it all to food banks/pantries. Our students spent their time planting seeds, weeding and filling sand bags. Thank you to Mr. Treadwell and Mrs. Goodwin for organizing this volunteer trip!

National History Day

We wished "good luck" to our TEN GMS students who won 1st or 2nd place at the state competition & headed for the National History Day national competition in Washington DC last week: Connor Albert, Christopher Gilbert, Grace Belanger, Lucie Noonan, Teddy Conway, Brody Gifford, Andrew Flanders, Alexander Wharton, Henry Haile & Eva Levin headed to DC for History Day competition.

While in DC, Lucie Noonan & Grace Belanger won the African-American History Prize at the National Level. They also placed 4th in the nation in their category, Junior Website, which can be viewed here. 


Habitat for Humanity Check Donation


Mrs. Waterhouse, Mrs. MacArthur & grades 4-5 students who raised more than $110 EACH presented a check to representatives from Habitat for Humanity this week. We are grateful to be supported by such a caring community!





Cromwell Center

MSAD #51 is fortunate to be one of the school district's to access the Cromwell Center's Disabilities Awareness & Sensitivity Programs which our students in grades 3-5 participate in. This short video below features two of our GMS 6-8 students and highlights the importance of the Cromwell Center's programming. Science Day at GMS 4-5
In one activity during the 5th grade science day, students learned about pendulums and how weight and length affect swing and arch. Then they applied this to create a work of art! 

3rd Annual First Responders Event



Thank you to Cumberland Police Department, Cumberland Fire Department, North Yarmouth Fire Department, and State Police who visited with special ed students to show them vehicles & equipment in a relaxed environment so their first interaction with these first responders may not be in an emergency. Thanks to Kristen Marks for organizing this great event!

Each year, MSAD #51 seeks nominations from staff members for the Employee of the Year. These nominations focus on an employee's efforts to advance the district's strategic vision of Engage . Empower . Inspire. Congratulations to Eliza Miller who was named 2019 MSAD #51's Employee of the Year. To learn a little more about Eliza, continue reading below...


Eliza is a Special Ed, Ed Tech III at GHS. Eliza’s work which encompasses basically all aspects of Greely.  Eliza works one-on-one with students, supports teachers, volunteers to chair the Athletic Advisory Board and organizes youth sports, to name a few. “Without Eliza Miller, I could not serve my students as a teacher in the best ways I possibly can.  Because she cares so much about the special ed students and pushes them to succeed to the best of their ability and shows this by collaborating, and sharing invaluable tools with staff (as well as students). Her years of experience and positivity leads the students benefit hugely from her structured approach and optimism - which wears off on the students beyond the classroom.”  Her nomination goes on to state, “She is a calm and caring presence for students and staff alike. She is a valued and well respected member of our community.”
