Greely Center for the Arts Update Construction has been progressing nicely on the Center for the Arts project. Steel framing has just about finished and the project is starting to be enclosed. You can now clearly see where seating will be.  With this building project going on, we are lucky enough to be able to partner with Ledgewood and Stephen Blatt Architects to provide some educational opportunities for our students to learn about the process that is happening right on campus.  Ledgewood made their first visit yesterday afternoon in Mrs. King's kindergarten class. Scott Clark, "the construction man", who is also the project manager for our Center for the Arts building, visited Mrs. King's class to talk about building and show the students some tools and construction materials. HAPPY NEW YEAR! New Bike Racks for Greely Middle School GMS students Adam Jacobson, Caleb Croce, and Ray Woodcock have created bike racks for our PT & OT bicycles with support and guidance from Speech & Language clinician, Jen McCullum, Occupational Therapist, Alicia Dostilio and her student teacher Sharan, and special education teacher, Derek Burow. Thank you to all of them for their hard work. As you can see, the racks are well constructed and are helping us keep the bikes organized and stored safely out of the way of hallway traffic. Niche Rankings Niche.com once again ranks MSAD #51 the 5th best school district in Maine for 2018, the second year in a row. GMS 6-8 ranked 6th best middle school in Maine and GHS ranked 6th best high school in state. Anti-Defamation League Peer Trainers Congratulations to our Anti-Defamation League (ADL) Peer Trainers! This year Greely Middle School 6-8 trained 17 new students in the Anti-Defamation League World of Difference Peer Trainer Program. We are so proud of this group of students for taking time out of their busy lives to take up this important work. The students learned about the importance of diversity, cultural sensitivity, and anti-discrimination. They delved deeply into the subjects of bullying and harassment, and plan to share this learning with 6th graders in their health classes. Way to go! Math Team News The Greely High School Math Team has been doing great this season! They are currently in 1st place in both their division (Pi-Cone South) and in the Medium School Division. PAC Construction Update The construction for the PAC has continued on schedule. Masons are on site and have completed the firesafe wall that connects the two buildings together.    The site work is ongoing, however the storm drains have been installed and substantial loads of dirt has been brought in to shore up the site. The foundation walls are almost finished and the digging has been completed for the elevator and orchestra pits. A safety concern was raised regarding the sidewalk on campus near the construction site. We have extended a temporary sidewalk to ensure student safety around the construction gates. Over the next few weeks, steel beams will arrive on site and the structure will start being framed. This will provide a visual of the size and scope of the building.
