Update: January 18, 2022

Equity Community Dialogue

Many thanks to the 90 participants at the January 11 Equity public dialogue event. Facilitator Lawrence Alexander of Carney-Sandoe Associates and the Equity leadership committee helped participants engage with prompts in breakout rooms. Special thanks to co-organizers Tyler McGinley and Nick Whiston.

RED Day 1.14.22

Many thanks to parents, teachers, staff, and students for their flexibility as we transitioned to a RED day on Friday, Jan. 14 due to high case counts, staff shortages, and 35 positive pools from pooled testing. Overall, administrators reported productive and smooth experiences in all schools in making this adjustment to RED for the day. Tuesday's return to in-person learning saw healthier attendance rates amongst students and staff.

Helping to End Hunger

5th graders in Sally Grund & Hayley Duncan's classes at GMS 4-5 walked donations they collected to the Cumberland Food Pantry before the holidays.

Poetry Out Loud

Great recitations of poetry from GHS students Jack Arey, Charlotte Libby, Alina Schueman, and Chloe Schueman during the 2021 Poetry Out Loud school contest, the first since 2020. Congrats to runner-up Charlotte Libby and contest winner Chloe Schueman. Chloe will represent GHS in subsequent poetry contests at the regional and/or state levels.

Congrats...

  • Bob Anthoine, GHS physical education teacher since 1985, upon his retirement on Friday, Jan. 21, at the end of the first semester. Many thanks to Bob for his dedication to Greely and the importance of keeping students active in order to develop life-long healthy habits.
  • Owen Kany was recognized as a recipient of the National Hispanic Recognition Award.
  • Maine State/Regional champion of the virtual stock market game this year is GHS senior Tucker Norwood. Tucker made $21,000 (virtually) in just 2 months after learning about stock market investments in social studies teacher Derek Soule's personal finance course at GHS.

  • Greely Girls Nordic ski team won their 1st competition of season. Alex Collins (senior) placed 2nd overall, Sylvia Harvey backing her with 3rd place overall & strong performance from Alina Schueman (6th place) & Chloe Schueman (8th place).

Thank You

COVID Dashboard Updates

As we have been doing now for 18 months, we provide information on all positive cases in our district that are reported to us. This week, we have added a new feature that provides information about all positive pools from our pooled testing program. Over the last two weeks, we have had 56 positive pools in our schools. Also, there have already been 368 positive cases reported since September, compared to 110 positive cases during the entire 2020-21 school year. For more information on the district's cases, check out the dashboard here: COVID Information Center

2021 Annual Report

At the January 3 Board of Directors meeting, Susie Robbins and I reviewed the 2021 Annual Report. A link to the report can be found on the district website or by clicking HERE. Don't miss the 2021 Photo Gallery at the end of the report.

Gotta Love Snow

4th and 5th graders have been out in the snow enjoying the Maine winter. Adding to the fun has been the arrival of new sleds purchased by the Greely PTO.
