Summer on Campus

Over the summer, school may have been out for most students, but it was a busy time nonetheless. Camp Friendship, tutoring, and credit recovery programs helped many students over the summer retain skills and we thank all of our staff who worked with students to help them be ready for 21-22. Our custodial and maintenance staff, under the supervision of Facilities Supervisor Don Foster and Asst. Supervisor Carl Rowe, deep-cleaned all of our buildings and helped to prep the 11 new modular classrooms on campus.

At the transportation garage, Larry Lare (l) and Phil Blake (c) got the buses up and running for another school year. Scott Poulin (r), director of Finance, Operations & HR for the district, works with supervisors to ensure that the schools and operational services are ready for the start of the year. An added component this year was preparing 11 new modular classrooms for student and staff use on campus.

Members of our transportation staff, under the supervision of Director Phil Blake and Asst. Director Rachael Swendsen, worked on maintaining the bus fleet and scheduling bus routes. The technology department, under the supervision of Director Dirk Van Curan, worked to clean all the devices in the district, deploy new devices, and mount tech equipment in the new modulars. Our district office staff processed new hires, closed out the budget year, and kept up with the myriad of paperwork that keeps the district going on the business end. Our administrators worked on student placement, staffing, schedules, and planning for the new school year while navigating new guidance from the CDC and state Dept. of Education.

Football Returns to Greely Campus

For the past two years, Greely has joined a co-op with Falmouth for high school football. Last Friday evening under the lights, the Falmouth-Greely team played South Portland at Hutchins Field, the first home football game in nearly three years. Tons of Ranger fans came out for the game, including many GHS students.

Welcome to our New Staff

We are so pleased to welcome our wonderful new staff members who have joined the Greely Team. Check out who's new this year at this link:  Welcome to Our New Staff 21-22

Greely Goes GREEN Spotlight

The Greely Goes GREEN Plan Greely Goes GREEN Full Plan-Revised 8.16.21 is focused on helping all students transition back to in-person, full-time school. To assist in this process, the GGG Plan, as it is known, is comprised of three guiding pillars: Health & Safety, Academics, and Social-Emotional Health. Staff at GMS 4-5 spent part of their professional learning time over the last week learning more about how to cultivate belonging in classrooms, led by Social Worker Katie Campbell, School Counselor Ali Waterhouse, and Principal Carol MacArthur.

Class of 2022 Hits the Beach

Many members of the GHS Class of 2022 met at Scarborough Beach for a few hours of sunshine, connecting, and swimming just before the school year began in late August.

Outdoor Learning on Campus

We are very fortunate to have access to so many outdoor learning spaces, including an amphitheater, pavilion (below), park benches, tents (below), regular picnic tables, and custom-made picnic tables (made by Eagle Scout Avery Olsen as seen below).

Additionally, GHS was awarded $1,500 for a "Teens to Trails" grant sponsored by the state Dept. of Education. Pathways specialist Dan Westhoven will be implementing the grant at the high school.

Congrats!

To Heather Geoghan, a physical education teacher at GHS, for being named the state's High School PE Teacher of the Year by the Maine Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation & Dance. Congrats!
