Listening Forums 🎤
Three parent listening forums were held Oct. 1, 5 & 6 with many parents offering feedback to Board members and members of the Leadership Team about how the YELLOW zone has been working and potential adjustments to make YELLOW work better. A staff listening forum was held as well. Summaries of these sessions will be provided over the next two weeks with annotations as to those feedback items that can be prioritized.
PE Class During COVID
What does a PE class look like when there is a pandemic going on? Teachers are finding creative ways of involving students in activities that promote physical activity but stay within CDC guidelines. Students at GMS 4-5 demonstrate honing their motor skills & hand/eye coordination in this Low Cardio Drumming activity during a recent PE class.
It's been great to see students back on the fields for the Fall season after a slow start. This is also the first season we have been live-streaming athletic events, so far providing this access for field hockey and soccer games. The live-stream link for field hockey and soccer home openers can be found on YouTube-Go Rangers! m.youtube.com/channel/UCUbXl.
On a related note, Rangers qualified for States in golf. Andrew Klein is a medalist for the boys' team and Ruth Weeks is a medalist for the girls' team.
Make Your Own Seat Cushion
GMS 6-8 students have been making their own "sit-upons" for outdoor learning based on the supplies coming in. Sit-upons can be made from a variety of materials, but many middle schoolers are using vinyl grocery bags as their material source. A good way to enjoy the great outdoors. The MDOE released the second round of coronavirus relief funds, with our allocation at $1,512,243, slightly more than the first round of $1.448 million. As was the case during the first round, the Board will be asked to approve the expenditure plan for these funds. The timeline for use of funds is the same as the first round, December 30, which is in federal statute. The turnaround timeframe is very short, with applications due on October 15. The district's Finance committee will be reviewing a list of potential expenditures later this week.
