Youth Art Month
Youth Art Month (YAM) is a national celebration of the visual arts and provides recognition for the important skills that are developed through visual art experiences such as problem solving, observation, communication, and creativity.
The Portland Museum of Art and the Maine Art Education Association (MAEA) have collaborated to bring National Youth Art Month to Maine. A month-long exhibition of artwork by K-12 students throughout the state runs from February 26 through March 29 on the Lower Ground Floor of the PMA. Admission to the exhibition is free for the public.
Congratulations to Solon Perry whose work will be included in the exhibit this year!
Please consider visiting the show some time in March to see his piece along with the rest of our state's wonderful young artists.

Board Goes to School
Over the last month, the "Board went to School" at GHS, GMS 4-5 and GMS 6-8. At GMS 6-8 they visited Jane Crowley's literacy group, Emily-Bogner-Williams' Spanish class, Peter Gillingham's US history class & Anna Visco's math class. On Friday, several members of the MSAD #51 Board visited 8 classrooms throughout GHS with Principal Christopher Hoffman & Assistant Principal Don Gray. It was a great experience to view a broad range of classes from English 9 to CP Geometry to IB Art.
Thank you to the Teachers for allowing Board Members to visit your classes and to Administrators for organizing this opportunity.
