Update: April 23, 2018
MSAD #51 ranked 3rd best school district in Maine by backgroundchecks.org, based on student performance (math and reading test scores), dropout rates, school funding, and poverty rates. Data was collected from a total of 9,577 U.S. school districts. Here's Maine's top 10 districts:

Greely Middle School Jazz Band
Our Greely Middle School Jazz Band, at the Maine State Jazz Festival, Millinocket. The kids played great and Nathan Howell received an outstanding musician award for his amazing drumming!
NHS Induction at GHS
The Greely High School Chapter of the National Honor Society welcomed its new members at an induction ceremony on March 21st. Inductees included 8 seniors and 47 juniors. Inductees must meet criteria in the areas of Scholarship, Character, Leadership and Service. The current members and advisors helped welcome these amazing students into the GHS Chapter.
District-Wide Band & Chorus Concerts
Our District wide concerts provide students family and friends an opportunity to view the entire program grades 5-12 band and 4-12 chorus. The performing arts program at Greely enjoys these concerts, as it is a unique moment for older students to reflect upon their learning and younger students to imagine their path forward. These concerts have been held since 2007 and they are very popular with both parents and students. The seniors are honored and the younger students are able to see seniors that have been able to balance a wide variety of learning on and off the the field/stage and traditional classroom throughout their time at Greely. This year, the All District Band concert was held on March 8th and the All District Chorus concert was on March 27th.

Last Day of School for Students
Because we have had six snow days (and made up one), the last day of school for students for the 2017-18 school year will be Monday, June 18th. This will be an early release day:
GMS 6-8 & GHS - release at 11:30
GMS 4-5 & MIW - release at 12:30
Chile Exchange
Many thanks to the Lattanzi, Frongillo, Corral and Leggat-Barr families for hosting our 4 exchange students from Santiago Chile. On Saturday, April 7th, we said a bittersweet goodbye to Isidora, Catalina, Renzo and Juan Pablo. None of them were ready to leave because they felt so at home here in our Greely community. Thank you one and all for making them feel so welcome. Now they are preparing our visit this summer to Santiago, Chile.
Freshman College Trip
The 2nd annual freshmen class trip for college and career readiness exploration took place recently. This year the trip was to the University of New England.
Congratulations are in Order!

National Awards!
GHS has two students who have received national awards from the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese. These students were eligible for these awards by first scoring in the 75th percentile on the National Spanish Exam and then by completing a rigorous scholarship application. They were finally chosen from a national pool of scholarship applicants.
Sophomore, Kira Fried was one of 15 students awarded the Global Citizen Scholarship; an all-expense paid two-week Spanish immersion program through Concordia Language Villages in Moorhead, Minnesota.
Junior, Stephanie Tillotson was one of 24 students awarded the Junior Study Abroad Scholarship; a ten-day all-expense paid trip to Spain, which includes tuition for classes, lodging at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, all meals and sightseeing excursions.
