Welcome to the 2017-2018 School Year!
Welcome to the 2017-18 School Year!
It was a busy summer at MSAD #51 as we completed a number of improvements to our facilities...
At GHS we reconfigured several spaces to better accommodate our student population and programs. A few major changes include revamping the previous Industrial Arts workshop into a STEM space which has added a Robotics, Technology, Science and Woodworking classrooms to align with the district's STEM initiatives. Additionally we converted the cardio room into an alternative education space and reconfigured our life skills area to increase space for those students. Finally, we repaired the concrete walls and rebar in the mechanical room of the pool.
At GMS some tile work was completed in the bathrooms.
At Mabel I. Wilson School there was a significant energy project which installed heat/AC pumps in classrooms as well as revamping the ventilation system, new heat controls and valves and electrical upgrades all proving an enhanced space for teaching & learning. This project was done with an eye towards energy savings. A small renovation in the library added some additional space for technology. Additionally, due to the increase in students, two small spaces were reconfigured into a full-size classroom for 1st grade and a two room modular building with bathrooms has been added behind the gym. This modular houses small group work for speech & language as well as gifted & talented.
The bid process for the PAC was very successful, not only with the base bid numbers for the project, but also for the ability to gain several add alternates (additional items not in the base bid) for the project.
The district received 8 qualified bids for the project, which is unusually high number of bids for a large-scale project such as this. Ledgewood Construction was the low bidder and pending school board approval and an executed contract, they won the bid to build the Performing Arts Center.
The official ground breaking will take place on Monday, October 2, 2017 at 4pm. Additional details to come. All are welcome.
On August 23, the district welcomed all new employees to MSAD #51 at our employee orientation. These 23 staff members spent the morning with me and district staff learning more about our district, our towns and our strategic initiatives. They spent the afternoon in their buildings with their administrators getting a lay of the land. To see who is who check out our "New Faces"!
On August 24, Greely High School welcomed the class of 2021 for freshman orientation and Mabel I. Wilson School welcomed the class of 2030 for kindergarten orientation.
We are all looking forward to the exciting accomplishments and gains our students will achieve this year.

| New 2017-2018 MSAD #51 Staff |
August 28th marked the opening day of the 2017-18 school year for our entire staff.
On Wednesday, August 30, students in grades 1-12 started back at MSAD #51. The day was full of excitement for both students and staff as the hallways and classroom filled the buildings throughout the district. On Monday, our youngest students started at the Wilson School. We made a short 30 second clip of the first day...
The school district's enrollment has increased over the previous year by 29 students. Most of the increase is occurring in grades K-5.
