                               2017 CLASS A CHAMPS!

Congrats to our boys' basketball team for winning the Class A state championship, the first time since 1998 for this program.  Facing Messalonskee for the championship at the Augusta Civic Center, the Rangers claimed the trophy with a 59-43 win, capping off a 22-0 season.  Great job boys and Coach Seaver for a flawless season.  Congrats to student athlete Matt McDevitt, who was named "Maine Mister Basketball 2017.

Congrats also to the boys hockey team, making it to the Class B South final and fighting hard, losing in OT. Great season boys and Coach Motes.

Great season for the Unified Basketball team, which ended with a packed celebration of all the students who participated.

Camping in March? MIW students, staff & parents went "camping" at the PTO-sponsored Family Literacy Night, sponsored by the Greely PTO.  Families enjoyed a variety of activities related to reading and writing, with a connection to the great outdoors.  Thank you PTO and MIW staff for hosting this event.

Thank you Marnie Dean & Seacoast Swim Club for donating $1,300 for a new electronic panel & $2,700 for a new audio system at Greely Pool, huge upgrades to that facility!

Thank you Board members Martha Leggat and Karen Campbell for testifying on behalf of the district in front of the Legislature's education committee regarding the proposed $896,000 in state subsidy reductions to MSAD #51.

Sophomore Anna Briley and senior Maggie Nolan will present their respective science research projects at NNE Junior Science/Humanities Symposium and will compete at nationals in San Diego.

The inaugural meeting of the district's Wellness Committee took place two weeks ago with 18 stakeholders representing staff, parents, students, and community members.  The Strategic Plan's intent is to develop a K-12 Wellness Plan for students and staff.  The committee will be working on this plan until the plan is completed in late 2017.

Exchange students from Chile arrived and are being hosted by Greely families during their stay. These students attend school at Greely and learn what it's like to live in America.  This summer, a group of students from GHS will complete the exchange by visiting Chile.  Many thanks teacher Margaret Corral for organizing this exchange.

Ranger Day @ GHS:  Celebration of the Arts included segments from the Madrigal Singers, Jazz band, drama club's Peril on the High Seas, art work from students in art classes, art work from students who worked with the street artist known as Pigeon on the theme "What is a Mainer?", and yes...the famous staff band who sang a couple of songs from the Doors. Who?  Well, that was a long time ago, let's just say.

The Doors?  No, even better... Mr. Curry, Mr. Tureff & the GHS staff band perform
Monte Selby, singer-songwriter, worked with MIW students on writing creative songs that were presented at a special event as part of the school's Artist-in-Residency.  Many thanks to teachers Allison Fluet and Mary Train for organizing this event and to Foundation 51 for sponsoring this residency.
